About Atti di Matrimonio

Atti di Matrimonio or Act of Marriage, is the civil registration of a marriage after it has taken place. It should be noted that when reading these records, the date of the marriage is not always the same the date of the church ceremony. Before 1809 there was no civil registration so especially in the early years of state civil records, many couples did not register their marriage with the comune until much later. Over the years the record of marriage called Atti or Atto di Matrimonio changed somewhat, however, the basic format and information provided did not.
